Host A Family

Let us know if you would like to host an artist and his or her parent. Apply to host an artist

Dear Prospective Host Family,

We invite your involvement and participation in the 5th World Children’s Festival in Washington DC on June 21-24, 2013. Hosted every four years since 1999 as “Olympics” of children’s creativity and co-creation, the World Children’s Festival (WCF) has grown into the largest international children’s celebration and a permanent quadrennial event in our Nation’s Capital.

The WCF is a culmination of the Arts Olympiad, a global art and sport program for children’s creative development which is cost-free to schools across the United States and worldwide. The bipartisan Congressional Arts Caucus has endorsed the Arts Olympiad because of its “important national and international implications” and the United States Olympic Committee has granted the International Child Art Foundation an exclusive license to use the “Arts Olympiad” and related marks.

The Arts Olympiad winners from nearly 100 countries convene at the WCF so they broaden their understanding of the United States and form lasting friendships with American children. For three days on the National Mall (June 17-19) these children ages 8 to 14 participate in a host of activities and workshops that foster creativity and empathy through inter-cultural understanding. The festival’s educational programs integrate art and sport with core STEM disciplines to provide these children a holistic and transformative experience. On June 20th the World Children’s Award Banquet is held, which the host families can attend at a discounted rate of $100 per person.

As citizen diplomats you and your family can help shape a brighter future by hosting an Arts Olympiad winner and his or her one parent at your home for a week (Wednesday 15 June to Tuesday 21 June). Without your kindness these children cannot afford to visit Washington and participate in the WCF. To make them feel part of your family, you might want to greet them upon their arrival (usually at Dulles or Reagan National), provide them at least one meal during their stay and breakfast every day, and perhaps even accompany them to the National Mall on June 17th, 18th and 19th, so your family can also enjoy the festivities as well. It is our policy to inform the guests that they must arrange for their own meals and local transport, hence any help that you can offer is a welcome surprise to them.

Please let us know your preference of a region or continent from where you would like to host a child and an adult. You can also decide on whether you and your family can host more than one child and an adult because some children are accompanied by both parents, a sibling or a teacher as well.

We thank you in advance for your kindness and generosity which speaks volumes of our beautiful city and our wonderful country.

Sincerely yours,

The ICAF Team
